Description
Maine is a one of a kind hand-burned and painted sign made from a 19th-century cedar shingle found along the Aroostook River.
I found the weathered shingle at the old lumber mill site in Caribou, Maine. I used a Maine-inspired element for each letter: mountains, green river glass, a lighthouse, wild blueberries, and a potato. I burned and painted the design by hand while keeping the wood’s aged character visible, then signed it and applied a matte UV-protective finish.
