Fiddlehead Season Is Here!

It came a little early this year, at least in our little part of the Aroostook River. Every year, just before fiddlehead season begins, Kim will say “I don’t think I’m going to pick any this year. We haven’t even finished the ones I picked last year!” Then, every year, without fail, I’ll find a 5-gallon bucket or sink full of fiddleheads, cleaned and ready to go 😁

Fiddlehead season is one of my favorite times of the year, not just because we get to eat fresh fiddleheads, but also because Kim tends to get creative with how she cooks them. This year she’s tried a couple of my new favorites; fiddlehead and chicken pizza (using homemade naan bread, of course) and deep-fried fiddleheads.

If you plan on heading out and picking some fiddleheads this season, whether for yourself or to sell to others, please be safe by the river (or anywhere, for that matter)!
