Our Story

Where the river meets the artwork.

The Aroostook River has been part of our lives for nearly two decades. Along its banks and riverbed, pieces of glass, pottery, driftwood, and beautifully worn stones have always had a way of catching our attention.

Riverbed Art started simply, with a piece of driftwood, a woodburner, and finger paint. From there, one idea led to another. River glass began finding its way into illustrations. Intact bottles, some around 100 years old, became vases. Pieces of pottery and driftwood took on completely new lives.

Today, Riverbed Art brings together illustration, painting, pyrography, and found natural materials to create original artwork rooted in northern Maine. Some pieces contain materials gathered directly from the Aroostook River, while others are simply inspired by the nature surrounding us.

Original Riverbed Art created with materials from the Aroostook River

From the Aroostook River

Found broken in the river. Made into something new.

Many Riverbed Art originals begin with materials hand collected from the Aroostook River in Caribou. Pieces of river glass, pottery, driftwood, and beautifully worn stones are chosen for their color, shape, texture, and character.

Those materials are combined with illustration, watercolor, gouache, pyrography, and other techniques to create something entirely new while still preserving a small piece of where it came from.

Nothing is carved or reshaped to make it more perfect. The marks left by water, weather, and time are part of what makes each piece unique.

The Creative Journey

Art became something more.

Creating has always been about more than making something beautiful. Art can be a place to slow down, pay attention, work through change, and reconnect with the things that matter.

That is part of what continues to shape Riverbed Art today. Nature, resilience, humor, love, and the idea that something unexpected can become meaningful all find their way into the work.

Sometimes the most meaningful things begin as something overlooked, weathered, or broken.
