As you may know, our resident artist and all-around creative person, Kim Chabre, my partner, underwent Stage 2 HER2+ Breast Cancer treatment between 2019 and 2020. While the treatment was one of the most challenging things we have ever been through (and in some ways continue to go through), Kim found a path toward healing by diving headlong into the art and creative process she’d spent her entire life cultivating. Some of that art is on display for the rest of the month at The Common Gallery in Presque Isle.
However, all the art in the world couldn’t provide the early detection and treatment that was necessary to put her cancer into remission and allow her to continue this wonderful life with her family today. Given the aggressiveness of her cancer, the outcome may have been much different were it not for the folks at the Jefferson Cary Cancer Center and Cary Medical Center in Caribou, Maine.
A routine mammogram detected traces of calcification, and more tests were ordered straight away. Before long we were in that exam room getting the news that nobody wants to hear. However, despite the devastating news, advances in the fields of breast cancer treatment were on our side, and here we are, over 2 years into remission ❤
In support of the organizations that supported us during this time, we’re giving a portion of the profits made on items sold in the Breast Cancer Experience category during the month of October to the Jefferson Cary Cancer Center.
These products feature reproductions of the art Kim made during her cancer treatment and represent many of the realities people face when going on this journey; grief, anxiety, chemo-brain (it’s a thing, trust us), and hope.
